The summer has been a very busy one for me. I have participated in several wonderful festivals and continue to get great responses from the new body of work. I do want to, however, invite you to the Castle Rock Art Festival, which is being held this weekend in Castle Rock, CO (Sept. 10-11, 2011).

Upcoming Events:
Three great events coming up:
•	Castle Rock Art Festival (Sept. 10-11) in Castle Rock, CO.
•	Denver Plein Air Competition and Festival (Aug. 12-Sept 14).
•	Scottsdale Art Festival (Nov. 12-13) in Scottsdale, AZ.
•	Denver Mask Project (April 2012) in Denver, CO

New work has been added to the website:
I have added new images that you can view on my website. I continue to explore texture while at the same time staying true to some traditional methods of painting. If you look at the bottom of this newsletter you will see some of the latest paintings.

1. For the painting, “When the Wind Blows,” I created an aspen scene within the contour of an aspen leaf. This particular painting had tremendous amount of response because of the “new discoveries” that people found the longer they looked at the painting.

2. In the painting called “In & Out,” I decided to paint a picture and then tear it apart and created an entirely new picture. I don’t create many of these types of paintings, but I continue to get people asking for them so I created “In & Out” just for the fans out there. This is the first piece like this that I have actually shared in a newsletter so it looks a little different than my other work. Yet, I wanted to tell you simply to be aware of the different creative ideas I have been exploring.

3. “The Invitation,” features a nice park bench, inviting the viewer to a relaxing place.

4. The last piece I did is called, “Tension.” This is the first time that I put a symbol in a painting as well as some found objects. People have asked me why the pi symbol. To answer that question: pi is a mathematical symbol and represents the logical or left side of the brain. It also represents how man has been progressing over the landscape. In this particular painting, I show the tension that takes place between the left side and the right side of the brain; the tension between man’s advancement (with technology and machines, etc.) and the landscape around him.

Publications:
I recently was juried into two publications that highlight various artists. The first is with Alcove Books called the “American Art Collector,” which will come out in Oct. 2011. You can go to alcovebooks.net for more information or to purchase the book. The other is with Visual Overture Magazine, which comes out in the Fall edition. For more information, go to visualoverture.com.

I have had a lot of positive response to the new body of work. I hope you get the chance to stop by one of the many upcoming festivals to actually see it in person. I think you will like it even more than in digital or print form. One of the best things about this new body of work is that it allows for a broad range of creativity while keeping a consistency throughout the body of work.

Upcoming Events
I am gearing up for a busy summer with a number of festivals around the nation. Below is the schedule at this point. Please note that I will be at the Downtown Denver Art Festival Memorial Day Weekend and I would love to see you again.
• Downtown Denver Art Festival (May 27-30) at the Downtown Denver Pavilions
• Vail Arts Festival (June 24-26) in Vail, CO at the Lionshead Village & the Arrabelle at Vail Square.
• Frisco Art Festival (July 2-3) in Frisco, CO at 304 Main Street.
• Summerfest (July 16-17) in Evergreen, CO at Buchanan Park
• Aspen Art Festival (July 23-24) in Aspen, CO at Wagner Park
• Sweetpea Festival of the Arts (Aug. 5-7) in Bozeman, MT
• Lake Tahoe Art Festival (Aug 20-21) in Lake Tahoe, CA
• Art in the Park (Aug. 27-28) in Parker, CO at O’Brien Park.

New Work
I have added new images that you can view on my website.

This body of work is all about texture and exploring those visual dynamics. I have done every painting so far in square. This might seem unusual, but it seems to grab the attention of the viewer and adds to the visual stimuli. I have combined a number of disciplines in each piece. Some would put me in the mixed media category, which on one level is true. However, I try to combine the disciplines of an oil painter with the disciplines of an acrylic painter and even a hint of a sculptor. If you have followed me for awhile, I would say that when I did the Painted Violin over a year ago, the seeds of what I am now doing were put in place. And like any seed, over time, it has sprouted up to what you see today in the work. I am very excited about this work, which is grabbing the attention of a whole new set of viewers.

Madden Museum
I recently had the privilege to be juried into a show called, “This is Colorado” exhibiting 97 Colorado artists held at the Madden Museum in Greenwood Village, CO. The new painting, “Adventure” was the juried piece. It was a great show.

Blogs:
I recently joined two Painter Blogs where you can view my new work each week.
FAQs:
Some have asked if I still had paintings left from my previous body of work (with the white borders). The short answer is yes. If you saw me at a show and liked what you saw but didn’t get an opportunity to purchase one of those pieces, simply email me or call me and we can discuss pricing options.

January Update

Welcome to the Dave Reiter Art Update & Newsletter

That is what has been happening these past months. I have had the chance to meet a lot of new friends this summer and fall and it has been wonderful.

Art About Agriculture Exhibt:
The painting, “Its A Coming” was juried into the Art About Agriculture Exhibit in Santa Paula, CA. This exhibit runs until January 30, 2011. For more information about the exhibit, go to their website at SantaPaulaartmuseum.org. I have added a picture of “Its A Coming” to the end of this update for you to see as well.

Upcoming Events:
I will be at the 2010 Summit County Christkindlmart (A Mountain German Christmas Celebration) in Silverthorne, CO, Dec. 10-12, 2010. I have a lot of new work and hope you get the chance to stop by.

New work has been added to the website:
I have added new images that you can view on my website.

In this group of paintings, I did several different variations of what I normally do. I did one triptych called, “Feeling the Breeze.” I don’t normally do triptychs but I wanted to explore clouds on a new level. I also wanted to do something different with the actual frame and construction of the canvas so I made a frame with rounded corners and called this painting “In and Out.” It may not look like a lot in a small image but in person, I have received a lot of complements around the originality of it. I also did a painting called, “The Passing of Time.” This painting is done on stretched canvas on board with a wooden frame. Again, the picture won’t show all this detail of the wood, so it is best to see it in person if at all possible.

Upcoming Work:
In my recent trip to a festival in Park City, UT, I had a catalytic event and felt a deep need to explore texture in a brand new way. Most of what you have come to experience in my painting style involves two consistent things: the white borders and the paint application, which is light and loose. Yet, one area that I have often felt I needed to add to my paintings is in the area of visual texture. So, I have been experimenting with this. As artists, it is always our goal to continue to stretch ourselves and grow beyond what we are today. Every artist wants to build upon his knowledge and expand his horizons in new ways. Therefore, in my next update, I hope to be able to share with you some of these new images. In fact, if you are able to get to the Christkindlmart this month, I will be showing some of these new landscape paintings.

New Blog:
I recently joined two Painter Blogs and you can view my new work each week. As you may know, I have been in a very “experimental mode” over the past six to nine months. I want to encourage you to come to a festival near you so that you will be able to see the new work, provide me feedback, and enjoy being out and about with great art.

Upcoming Events:
I have some awesome festivals on my schedule including:
•	Frisco/Breckenridge Art Festival (July 3-4—located on mainstreet in downtown Frisco, CO)
•	Aspen Art Festival (July 17-18—located in Wagner Park in downtown Aspen, CO)
•	Frisco Art Festival (Aug 7-8—located on mainstreet in downtown Frisco, CO)
•	Redstone Art Fair (Aug 14-15—located in Redstone in Park City, UT)
•	Golden Fine Arts Festival (Aug. 21-22—located in the historic downtown district of Golden, CO)
•	Art in the Park (Aug. 28-29—located at O’Brien Park in Parker, CO)

New work has been added to the website:
I have added new images that you can view on my website (www.davereiterart.com). You can also see all of the new images attached to the end of this newsletter.

In this group of paintings, I did several smaller pieces as it seemed that a number of shows wanted this type of work at this time. I also did two paintings that were more southwestern in subject matter. Finally, I wanted to explore clouds and weather a little bit more, which you will see in the last painting I did called, “It’s A Coming.” I have received a lot of positive feedback on these and I hope you enjoy them as well.

Framing:
My paintings all have a pre-finished gallery wrap that can be hung beautifully without additional framing. During my recent “experimental mode,” I have spent a lot of time experimenting different types of frames that people could choose if they wanted a frame. I have now selected a frame that compliments the work very well. It is called a “floating frame.” I like it in walnut, but you can choose a different wood if you want. It is very unique and it makes the work stand out very well. I am currently getting new photographs of some of my paintings, several of which will include the floating frame around them. Please watch for these in my next update.

Purchase work:
1.	If you want to purchase Dave Reiter Art, you can do so at any of the following on-line galleries (www.davinciartgroup.com, www.discoveredartists.com, artworksagency.com.)

2.	You can also see my work in person at the Courtyard Gallery in Castle Rock, CO at 333 Perry Street, or by calling 720-338-8843 to make an appointment for a private showing.

3.	Attending one of the art festivals listed above will give you an excellent opportunity to view my work and purchase your favorites.

The last five months have been very eventful for me. I participated in a number of festivals and juried shows, most of these were in an around the Denver area. I also have been very busy with the Painted Violin tour that has been going on the last five months. I hope that you have had the chance to view the violin and maybe even purchase a few raffle tickets. Let me tell you the story behind the violin and how it has changed some of my paintings, which you will see in the future.

First of all, the Painted Violin was done for a fundraiser for DYAO (Denver Young Artists Orchestra). I was one of 15 artists selected for this year’s show. All of the artists received a donated violin and then asked to be creative and paint whatever they wanted on this violin. Once all the violins were finished and collected, they went on a six month tour to a number of different galleries in the Denver area.

This was the first time that I actually painted on an object other than a flat canvas. This proved to be both challenging and rewarding at the same time. Yet, I still tried to paint in my signature style of painting lightly and leaving the edges white. I did something different in that I choose to paint the same landscape but in two different seasons—fall and spring. I have had a tremendous amount of positive feedback on this, so you will probably see this come up in future paintings.

Another interesting thing happened while doing this violin project. I ended up blending three different art disciplines together into one piece. I was able to unify the disciplines and understanding of the painter, musician and sculptor into this piece. This was very exciting to me because it sparked a number of ideas that I am already working on right now and I hope to be able to share those with you in the next update.

The last thing I did was I wanted to share the story of the violin and how I created it. I have never done this with any other painting so I decided to hand write this story in a journal that walks through what I thought and felt when I created the piece of artwork. I tell how I selected my title, how I chose the colors, how I decided on the scene. I walk through what was going on in my mind as I blended the disciplines of the painter, musician and sculptor into this one piece. I share my struggles, joys and challenges. This journal took me almost as much time as it did to paint the entire violin. As a result of doing this, the person who ends up receiving my violin will get my journal that goes with it. So, again, I hope that you were able to purchase a few raffle tickets. If not, you can do so by going to the DYAO website and ordering them (www.dyao.org). The drawing will take place in about one month on April 11 (you don’t have to be present to win). And who knows, maybe you just might be the lucky winner of my painted violin.

To see additional photos of the violin, you can go to my website and click on portfolio and then on Painted Violin to see a 360 degree view of all the sides. Again, this was very exciting to me and I hope that you are able to enjoy it just as much as I did in creating it.

Upcoming Events:
Right now I am securing my festival schedule for the year. If you want to purchase work, you can do so by going to any of the following on-line galleries (www.leapoffaithgallery.com, www.davinciartgroup.com, www.discoveredartists.com, artworksagency.com .) If you can’t wait for a festival, you can always see my work in person at the Leap of Faith Fine Art Gallery in Fort Collins, CO., or by making a personal appointment.

New work has been added to the website:
I have added new images that you can view on my website (www.davereiterart.com). You can also see all of the images attached to the end of this newsletter. For this particular group of paintings, I expanded the water theme by doing my first painting that involves rain. This proved to be a nice addition to the body of work. I also painted another waterfall as well as a fall and winter scene.

The last five months were extremely experimental for me. I think the painted violin pushed me in creative ways that other events did not do. In some ways, it felt unproductive, but in other ways, it seemed like the foundation that was laid before a large building gets erected. I am excited to be able to share some of those things with you. In fact, there are so many ideas and paintings flowing out of me that I will probably be sending you an update on a monthly basis. So 2010 is going to be the year where you will see an expansion on the concepts and ideas that you have become familiar with seeing in my work.

As always, I look forward to seeing you in the near future,

Brief Overview of the Summer Events:
Fall is fast upon us and I have just come off a very busy summer. Here is what I have been up to recently:
•	Participated in five wonderful festivals in the Colorado area (Aspen, Frisco, Golden, Parker, Greenwood Village)
•	Juried into one show “Lines into Shapes” in Estes Park, CO.
•	Participated in three fundraising events (Nicolaysen Art Museum in Wyoming and “Art for Ransom” in Denver, CO). The third fundraising event is “The Painted Violin,” I will explain this later, because the opening for this is coming soon and I want you to come.
•	Conducted a paint demo for Leap of Faith Gallery in Fort Collins, CO.

Upcoming Events:
My first upcoming event is the Painted Violin. I am one of 15 selected artists who were asked to paint on a violin to support the Denver Young Artists’ Orchestra. You will be hearing more about this event and the opening in about a week. However, for your calendar, please mark down Sunday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 PM. You can get your tickets by calling 303-433-2420 or by going to their website www.paintedviolin.com. Additionally, my violin will be going on a six month traveling tour throughout the Denver area. I am very excited about this because I did a number of new things and explored new themes with this piece that must be kept a secret until after the opening. I hope that you are able to join me at the opening reception to see this piece unveiled and to see the new themes I developed for this fundraiser.

Two other events in which I am participating:
•	Lone Tree 8th Annual Art Exhibition held in the Lone Tree Golf Club & Hotel (9808 Sunningdale Blvd., Lone Tree, CO). Oct. 17-31 with the opening reception being Oct. 17 from 4-6 pm.
•	Nicolaysen Art Show, Casper, WY (Nov. 12-14, 2009)

New work has been added to the website:
I have added new images that you can view on my website (http://www.davereiterart.com). You can also see all nine images attached to the end of this newsletter. For this particular group of paintings, I selected long and narrow canvases for almost all of the paintings. These seem to be very popular amongst collectors and viewers, so I hope that you will enjoy them as well.

In this collection of paintings, I did a very large painting, called “Free Falling,” which is sized at 72 inches high by 24 inches wide. It has a very nice presence to it when you view it in person. I also did a few new things and firsts for me in these particular paintings. I wanted an approaching storm (“Approaching”), I did an early morning painting (“Early Light”) and I did a painting late in the day, which includes the moon (“Harmony”), I also explored the theme of birth to death (“Stages of Life”). This group of paintings was very exciting for me to produce because there were a lot of new ideas that I developed and I was pleased with how they turned out.

A look at the rest of the year:
During the last part of this year, I will be doing a number of shows and festivals. As for the paintings, I will continue to explore the storm theme. I really like how the first one turned out. I will share more about these in the next newsletter. I will also be painting with more fall colors.
